The engineering
The design starts from not losing data. A Go core carries the routing, and messages ride a durable, replayable backbone rather than a fire-and-forget bus, so a slow consumer or a dropped link costs nothing — the edge relay buffers to a local store and fills the gap on reconnect.
Every node is a real OPC UA server and REST API in its own right, not a black box in the middle, and the address space federates downward: a parent projects every child's tags as one tree. A whole site reads like a single system, which is why moving a signal between areas is a setting rather than an integration project.
The security model exists to cross the perimeter without weakening it, so the plant only ever reaches outward. Tiers authenticate to each other with mutual TLS under an internal CA and certificates rotate without a restart; access is scoped by RBAC and data views, where an out-of-view tag returns 404 so its existence is never revealed; domain authentication binds to LDAP/AD and OAuth2/OIDC with tokens validated offline at every relay; and the audit trail is hash-chained and tamper-evident.
It runs on Linux (x86-64 and ARM64) and Windows, from a compact edge host up to Kubernetes in the datacenter, and every node exposes its own health and metrics over the same REST API — so it monitors like any other piece of infrastructure.
